A lifelong animal lover and veteran teacher with 17 years experience in classrooms from Kindergarten to high school, Jan Coy founded Happy Horse Dreamery as the result of a challenge. A high school special Education teacher, Jan sees too many students come into high school feeling "stupid" and not being able to see past the academic failures of the past. A firm believer in a well-rounded education, Jan also believes that education in America needs to be more realistic and offer more for the students that don't fit into a typical academic mold.

"I have worked with many students over the years, and I have come to realize that the secret is simple. I love to challenge my students to go outside the realm of academics and reach within to find their "heart brain." I think the best way to explain it is "that special something that makes your smile bright, your step light, and your heart happy." My heart brain is horses, but there are as many variations on this theme as there are hearts. It might be singing, writing poetry, playing a musical instrument, or being a doctor. It doesn't matter what it is - what matters is taking the chance to fulfill your heart's desire."
